Punnett Square Builder
Gregor Mendel discovered the rules of inheritance by breeding pea plants. A Punnett square is a simple grid that predicts the possible offspring of a cross. In this activity the gene is for plant height: T = tall (dominant) and t = dwarf (recessive).
Each parent gives one allele to each offspring → the box shows the offspring's genotype
- Learn the key words of genetics.
- Work out the gametes each parent makes.
- Fill in the Punnett square.
- Read the genotype and phenotype ratios.
- Grow real plants and compare them with your prediction.
